How much does a clothing photoshoot cost in 2026?

If you sell clothes online, product photos on a model are one of your biggest recurring costs. Here are real, published prices for each part of an on-model shoot, a worked example, and how AI model photos compare.

What each part of a shoot costs

CostTypical priceWhere the number comes from
Photographer$500 – $3,000 per dayShopify's 2026 range; more with assistants and equipment [1]
Finished product photo$50 – $350 per imageShopify's 2026 per-image range [1]
Studio booking$149 per bookingSoona studio pass [2]
Photos$39 per selected photoSoona [2]
Full-body model$159 per hourSoona [2]
Hair & makeup$299 per modelSoona [2]
Styling$149 per hourSoona [2]

Not in the table, but usually part of the bill: shipping samples to the studio, editing and retouching, reshoots when something is off, and the time you wait for the final images.

A worked example: 20 on-model photos

Using Soona's published prices for a three-hour booking with one model:[2]

Studio pass$149
20 photos × $39$780
Full-body model, 3 hours × $159$477
Hair & makeup, 1 model$299
Total$1,705 (about $85 per photo)

This is before styling, shipping and any reshoots. A traditional photographer day rate of $500 to $3,000,[1] plus the model, lands in a similar range or higher.

The same 20 images with AI cost 20 credits: well inside the Starter plan of 60 images for $19 a month, or about $6.40 at its per-image price. They are ready in minutes, not days.

When a real photoshoot is still worth it

  • A flagship campaign or lookbook where the story and the people matter as much as the clothes.
  • Video, or anything that has to show movement.
  • When customers need to see exactly how the fabric drapes and fits on a real body.

For day-to-day catalogue work (every new item, every colourway, front, back and detail shots), AI model photos cover most of it at a fraction of the cost. A common approach is a small real shoot for the campaign and AI for the rest.

How to get good AI model photos

The quality of the result depends mostly on your garment photo. Our photo checklist covers light, backgrounds and the small things that matter, and the pose library shows every pose on the same outfit.

Questions

How much does one on-model clothing photo cost?

With a traditional shoot, Shopify puts a finished product photo at $50 to $350. In our worked example with a studio's published prices, 20 on-model photos come to about $85 each. AI on-model photos cost a fraction of that: on Foldrise's plans, $0.30 to $0.32 per image.

What makes a clothing photoshoot expensive?

The people and the time: the photographer's day rate, the model's hourly or day rate, hair and makeup, styling and the studio. Shipping samples, reshoots and editing add to it, and you usually wait days or weeks for the final images.

Are AI model photos good enough to replace a photoshoot?

For catalogue and product page images, often yes: they show the garment on a model in a consistent style at a much lower cost. For a flagship campaign, video, or when the exact drape and fit on a real body must be shown, a real shoot is still worth it. Many brands use both.

Do I need a model release for AI model photos?

If you use a real person's face as the model photo, you need their permission, just as you would for a photoshoot. Foldrise only allows photos of yourself or of someone who has agreed to it.
